Architects on Show – Sustainable Housing
Local Peakhurst architect Adrian Ball and Anthony Nolan from Kennedy Associates will discuss how architects incorporate sustainable housing principles into their projects in this special talk during Architecture Week.
Anthony Nolan from Kennedy Associates will talk about his own house and the changes he road tests at home to conserve water and energy – before he shows them to his clients. For example, through behavioural change and simple improvements he has reduced his family’s energy usage to 9KW/day – when the Sydney average is 21 KW/day. Be inspired by these simple and effective ideas.
Local architect Adrian Ball will talk about his sustainability design principles in a house under construction in Peakhurst. The house is built with insulated concrete formwork, and has been designed for solar access and cross ventilation around a central courtyard. Adrian will demonstrate the importance of establishing a ‘thin footprint’ right from the initial stages of the project’s excavations and foundations – as well as in the building design.
