Eastern Weft is a weaving Co operative based in Vientiane Laos. It was established in 2004 to provide opportunities for disadvantaged young women to gain sustainable livelihoods through the traditional art of weaving. We produce the cotton, breed our own silk worms. The fibres are collected by hand, hand spun, hand dyed using locally sourced vegetable dyes such as leaves, seeds and flowers which are available each season. Finally the yarn is then hand woven on traditional floor looms. No machinery, electricity or chemicals are used in any stage of the entire production process, keeping the ecological footprint of production down to a bare minimum.
