Put this concept forward at your next staff meeting: to save energy (and company dollars) some businesses and governments have switched a four day work week.

The state of Utah led the charge in June 2008, with state employees switching to a four day week in August with the state extending its daily service hours from 7 am to 6 pm Monday to Thursday and offices closed on Fridays. The concept was that the state would save on utility expenses and employees would save on fuel. This of course, would also reduce emissions from energy and transport, with the environmental impact being estimated to the equivalent of removing 600 cars annually.
Other US states have been considering the idea, especially in the wake of the financial crisis, to cut costs. Meanwhile, individual companies are also adopting the trend, with Nissan US moving its factory operations to four day weeks and KPMG in the UK offering a shorter week option to its employees.
Find out how much of an environmental difference the 4 day work week could make.
